, quale che siano i metodi usati per elaborarla, si fonda su gusti e tendenze personali, ma se la classifica la basiamo su un gruppo "numeroso" e selezionato di "esperti" possiamo pensare di ottenere una valutazione quanto più oggettiva possibile.
Questo devono aver pensato i redattori della rivista Rolling Stone USA quando nel 2004 hanno chiesto ad un super panel di
di scegliere le migliori canzoni di tutti i tempi. Successivamente, nel 2009, la stessa richiesta è stata fatta ad un gruppo simile di 100 personaggi illustri di selezionare le migliori canzoni degli anni 2000.
E infatti il direttore invitava i lettori a non inondare la redazione di lettere di protesta perché «manca questa, manca quella...».
: "Una canzone, quando è grande, non deve dimostrare di esserlo, semplicemente lo è. Quando ascolti una grande canzone, ripensi subito a dov'eri la prima volta che l'hai sentita: agli odori, ai sapori di quel momento. Una grande canzone cattura le emozioni di un istante e le conserva per l'eternità."
Naturalmente l'invito del direttore a moderare le lettere di protesta fu un po' disatteso, non per la mancanza di particolari canzoni, quanto piuttosto per il giudizio a senso unico nello stilare la classifica.
mosse a questa classifica il fatto che la lista è fortemente sbilanciata verso gli artisti americani e britannici: delle 500 canzoni incluse nella lista, 357 sono di autori americani, e 117 di autori britannici; il terzo paese più rappresentato è il Canada con 10 canzoni, quindi la Repubblica d'Irlanda con 8. La lista contiene soltanto una canzone non cantata in inglese: La Bamba (345°) di Ritchie Valens (nato negli Stati Uniti). Un'altra comune critica è che la lista concentra le sue attenzioni soprattutto sugli anni '60 e '70, tralasciando i periodi più recenti ed i nuovi generi musicali come l'hip hop/rap. Da notare la totale assenza di importanti gruppi progressive come Genesis, Yes ed Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Questa classifica risente (inevitabilmente) del gusto musicale americano; gli esperti selezionati erano critici e musicisti americani, e la rivista è rivolta ad un pubblico per lo più statunitense, e si sa quanto gli americani siano nazionalisti.
Ne è venuta fuori una classifica di 500 pezzi che certo non accontenta tutti. D'altronde è il classico giochino scemo da prendere sempre molto sul serio. Qualcuno pensa si tratti di divertissement, ma è soltanto rock'n'roll, e noi che siamo rimasti bambini, giustamente cerchiamo di tirarne fuori un qualcosa di sconveniente. Trattandosi di giochino scemo, credo vada bene così.
Non ci resta che dare uno sguardo a questa classifica, elencando le canzoni così come sono uscite dalla rivisitazione del 2009.
